How Much Does Local SEO Cost in Canada?

Clickspire Team··6 min read

A straight answer on what local SEO costs for a Canadian small business, what pushes the price up or down, and what to check before you sign with anyone.

At Clickspire, local SEO costs $300 to $500 a month, plus a one-time setup fee of $500 to $1,000 depending on the package. There is no long-term contract. What you pay with any provider depends on how competitive your city and industry are, how many locations you have, and how much work your profile and website need.

Our local SEO packages at a glance

  • Starter: $300/month plus a $500 one-time setup fee. Up to 25 keywords tracked, bi-weekly Google Business posts, up to 25 directory listings and monthly reporting.
  • Growth: $400/month plus a $750 one-time setup fee. Up to 50 keywords, weekly posts, up to 35 directory listings, regular business consultation and fixes for existing online profile issues.
  • Pro: $500/month plus a $1,000 one-time setup fee. Up to 100 keywords, weekly posts, up to 50 directory listings, regular business consultation, competitor analysis and monitoring, and a dedicated account manager.

Every package includes Google Business Profile optimization, review responses and monthly reporting, with no contract. Prices are in Canadian dollars for businesses in Canada and US dollars for businesses in the United States. The full side-by-side comparison is on our pricing page at clickspire.com/pricing.

What you are actually paying for

Local SEO is the work that helps your business show up when someone nearby searches for what you do, mostly in the Google map results and on your Google Business Profile. It is not one task. It is a set of small jobs that need to keep happening every month: posting updates, answering reviews, keeping your business details the same everywhere they appear online, watching where you rank, and fixing problems as they come up.

The monthly fee pays for that ongoing work. A setup fee is common in local SEO because the first stretch is usually the heaviest: sorting out the profile, cleaning up old or mismatched listings, and getting tracking in place so you can see whether anything is changing. Once that groundwork is done, the monthly work builds on it.

What drives the cost of local SEO

If you collect a few quotes, you will notice they do not line up neatly. That is mostly because providers are pricing different amounts of work. These are the things that move the number:

  • How competitive your city and industry are. A plumber in a large city is up against far more businesses than a plumber in a small town, and it takes more steady work to move up in a crowded map pack.
  • How many locations you have. Each location usually has its own Google Business Profile, its own directory listings and its own rankings to watch, so more locations means more work.
  • How much your profile and website need. A profile with the wrong category, duplicate listings, old photos or a website with thin service pages needs fixing before the regular monthly work can do much.
  • Whether content and links are included. Some quotes cover writing new pages and earning mentions from other websites. Others cover the profile and listings only. Ask which one you are getting.
  • How many keywords are tracked. Tracking a handful of searches is a smaller job than tracking dozens across several services and neighbourhoods.

How long before you see results

Most clients see first improvements within 30 to 60 days, with significant gains by month 3 to 6. Local rankings move gradually, so we recommend giving it at least 3 to 6 months before you judge whether it is working. Our plans are month-to-month with no long-term contract, so you are never locked in while you find out.

What to check before hiring anyone

Whoever you hire, these questions will tell you a lot about what you are buying:

  1. What exactly happens each month? You should get a plain answer: how many posts, how many directory listings, how many keywords tracked, and what gets reported. If the answer is vague, it is hard to know what you are paying for.
  2. Who owns my Google Business Profile? You should always stay the owner. An outside company can be added as a manager, and if you part ways, the profile stays with you.
  3. How long is the contract, and how do I cancel? Get this in writing before you start.
  4. What will the reports show? Look for things you care about, like calls, direction requests and website visits from your profile, not just a list of rankings.
  5. Are prices in Canadian or US dollars? It sounds obvious, but it can change the real cost noticeably.
  6. How do you get reviews? Buying reviews, or only asking customers you know are happy while filtering out the rest, breaks Google's rules and can get your profile suspended.
  7. Do you guarantee rankings? Google decides who ranks. A promise of a top spot is a promise nobody can keep, so treat it as a warning sign.

Can you do local SEO yourself?

Yes, a lot of it. If you have a few hours a month, you can keep your profile up to date, post regularly, reply to reviews and keep your details consistent across directories. Our local SEO checklist for small businesses walks through the basics. Where people usually get stuck is consistency: the work is easy to start and easy to let slide when the busy season arrives. Frequently asked questions

Is there a contract?

No. Our plans are month-to-month with no long-term contract. We recommend giving it at least 3 to 6 months, because local rankings take time to move.

Why is there a setup fee?

The start of any local SEO work is the heaviest part: getting the profile, listings and tracking in order. The one-time setup fee is $500, $750 or $1,000 depending on the package you choose.

Are your prices in Canadian dollars?

Prices are in Canadian dollars for businesses in Canada and US dollars for businesses in the United States.

Is my Google Business Profile included?

Yes. Every Clickspire package includes Google Business Profile optimization, review responses and monthly reporting. If you are comparing quotes from other providers, ask, because some treat the profile as a separate job.

What if my Google Business Profile is suspended?

That needs to be sorted out first, because ranking work cannot do much for a profile Google has taken down. Reinstatement is a separate service with a $500 flat fee per profile. Our guide to Google Business Profile reinstatement cost and timeline explains how it works, and the details are at clickspire.com/services/gbp-reinstatement.
