How it works
Your Google Business Profile is the reference. Every other listing should agree with it.

Search for your Google Business Profile. Its name, address and phone become the version every listing is checked against.
We check the directories
We search Google for your listings on the major directories for your country and read the details each one shows.
Get your score and fix list
See which listings match, which differ and which are missing, then unlock the exact differences and a step-by-step fix list.
Where inconsistent listings come from
Most businesses never set out to have conflicting listings. They move, change phone providers, add a suite number or rebrand, and the old details stay on directories that nobody remembers signing up for. Some directories also copy each other, so one outdated source can spread.
We compare the meaning, not the formatting: Street and St, a suite written as “200-123” or “123, Suite 200”, and phone numbers with or without brackets all count as the same. What gets flagged is a different number, a different street or postal code, or a name that does not match.
Cleaning up listings is part of the directory work in our local SEO services. Since every listing should copy your Google Business Profile, make sure it is in good shape with the free GBP analyzer, and see how far your map visibility reaches with the map pack rank grid.
Frequently asked questions
What does NAP mean?
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. A citation is any place online that lists them together, such as Yelp, Yellow Pages, the BBB or Facebook. NAP consistency means every one of those listings shows the same details as your Google Business Profile.
Why does NAP consistency matter for local SEO?
Directories are one of the ways Google and customers confirm a business is real and where it is. When listings disagree, an old phone number or a previous address sends customers to the wrong place, and it gives search engines conflicting versions of your details. Consistent listings remove that doubt. They work alongside your profile, reviews and website, not instead of them.
Which directories does the checker look at?
For Canadian businesses: Yelp, YellowPages.ca, 411.ca, Canada411, the Better Business Bureau, Facebook, Foursquare, Cylex Canada, Hotfrog and n49. For US businesses: Yelp, YellowPages.com, the Better Business Bureau, Facebook, Foursquare, Manta, MapQuest, Superpages and Nextdoor. The country comes from your Google Business Profile address.
What does "listed, not verified" mean?
We found a listing that appears to be yours, but could not read its address or phone number. Some directories block automated reading, and search results do not always show the full details. Open those listings yourself and compare them with your Google Business Profile.
How is the score worked out?
Each directory is worth 10 points: 10 for a listing that matches, 6 for a listing we found but could not verify, 3 for a listing with differences, and 0 when no listing was found. The total is scaled to 100. Small formatting differences, such as St and Street or (613) and 613-, are not counted as differences.
How do I fix an inconsistent or missing listing?
Treat your Google Business Profile as the master copy and make sure it is correct first. Then claim each directory listing, update the name, address and phone to match it word for word, and remove duplicates. Some directories copy data from each other, so an old phone number can reappear until every source is corrected. This is the directory listing work included in our local SEO packages.
